I worked as career adviser and career development consultant for a number of years, but the more qualified and experienced I became, the more I realised I wasn’t using my full range of skills and strengths. Working within systems that didn’t necessarily recognise the unique and varied needs of individuals was also challenging. I craved to work in a more impactful, intuitive and effective way with my clients which wasn’t possible working for someone else.
So about 16 years ago, I finally took the leap and launched my own career coaching practice. It was a challenging time as I figured out how to earn a living doing what I loved. But with some careful planning and lots of perseverance, I managed to achieve my goal. Since then, I’ve shaped my coaching practice to meet the needs of my clients in an environment of constant change. I am 100% dedicated to helping my clients reach their goals, and to constantly evolving as a career development practitioner and career coach.
Today, I work with people of all ages and backgrounds all over the world. People often ask me who my typical client is. I’d say it’s anyone who needs support to achieve their career and life goals or, what I call ‘career happiness’. Career is not just what you do for a living. A contemporary perspective of career is more holistic, it focuses not just on work-life but recognises the impact career has on our personal lives too. Rather than being a separate focus, individual well-being is considered alongside career decision making, planning and development.
I work with people who want to boost their confidence, change careers or decide the next best steps in their career. Some of my clients are digital nomads working online in remote parts of the world, others have regular 9-5 jobs in the city or portfolio careers. As you can see, there really is no ‘typical’ client I work with, but that’s what makes my work so interesting and rewarding. My primary motivation is to help people thrive in all areas of their lives, especially their careers.
Although I’ve trained in numerous counselling and coaching techniques and describe my approach as integrative, I coach with a strengths and solution-focused approach. I’m deeply inspired by the amazing work of positive psychology pioneers Dr Martin Seligman, and Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, the developer of Flow Theory. In fact I became so fascinated by Flow, I have embarked on flow-state research within Tampere University’s psychology department researching the effect of flow on career happiness and success.
I am a Certified Positive Psychology Practitioner committed to helping people grow into themselves, achieve flow in their work and live their lives with authenticity. With a degree in counselling and a master’s degree in career counselling and coaching, I use a range of specialist tools, strategies and techniques in response to individuals’ needs to help them to flourish.
When you work with me you won’t find a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Instead, I really want to get to know you. To understand your story, hopes and dreams. While I can’t make decisions for you, I will be a partner on your journey asking the right questions at the right time to help you get a deeper insight into what you want and need, along with how you can make it happen.
