About Me
Lisa LaRue Career Coach

Life is too short to wait another week, month or year to live the life you want to live.

My background

Like many of us, I grew up thinking that work was just something you did to earn money to pay the bills. The working week was a long, hard slog of days to be endured. Weekends were the time to live your life and by Monday morning, you started all over again filled with dread. It wasn’t until my early 20s that I started researching career options and discovered there were people who really loved their jobs. Why were these people different I wondered. I became fascinated by this paradox of people who loathed their jobs and those who didn’t. I had to solve this puzzle.

Early on in my career I worked with disengaged young people and discovered that career conversations awakened hope, optimism and excitement about imagined futures. I felt I was on to something, and after a lot of reading and researching, I came to the conclusion that the difference between those who loved their jobs and those who didn’t was choice. Having the ability to choose a career that aligned with your interests, values and strengths appeared to be a large part of what made a career enjoyable and engaging.

From that point on I have dedicated myself to unlocking the keys to successful, engaging and fulfilling careers.

My perspective

For the past 20+ years, I’ve worked with people of all ages and backgrounds all over the world. People often ask me who my typical client is. I’d say it’s anyone who wants to achieve their career and life goals or, what I call ‘career happiness’. Career is not just what you do for a living. Contemporary perspectives of career are more holistic, focusing not just on work-life but recognising the impact career has on our personal lives too. Individual well-being is considered alongside career decision-making, planning and development.

I work with people who want to realise their full potential, change careers or decide the next best steps. Some of my clients are digital nomads working online in remote parts of the world, others have regular 9-5 jobs or portfolio careers. Increasingly, many of my clients work remotely or hybrid which brings unique challenges and rewards. As you can see, there really is no ‘typical’ client I work with, but that’s what makes my work so interesting and rewarding. My primary motivation is to help people thrive in all areas of their lives, especially their careers.

My approach

My approach is integrative (career development, coaching psychology and positive psychology), strengths-based and solution-focused. Clients describe me as being engaging, supportive and professional with the ability to expertly help them navigate their way to career success.

I use a range of coaching, training and mentoring methods and techniques to help people achieve career happiness and success.
